Leadership Vision for Managing Information

Leadership Vision for Managing Information

A public child welfare agency’s approach to information management embeds the leader’s vision for working with children, families and communities into the daily collection and dissemination of information throughout the system. Modeling an “information management consciousness’ by top-level leadership is a key component in developing a strong sense of the importance of information management issues. Leadership must help define and support a coordinated and collaborative approach to creating effective information management within agencies and across agencies. Otherwise, the process becomes siloed and reactive rather than proactive and interoperable.

Through the strategic planning process, the leader’s vision for managing information should reflect the following principles: Information management is cultivated at a high level within the agency.

  • Information management is part of the agency’s overall management strategy.
  • Monitoring and improvement of the information management plan includes an understanding of the programmatic/service ide of the agency.
  • The information management plan supports opportunities for data sharing.
