Public health and human services are built through relationships, trust, and community. Creativity offers a powerful way to strengthen all three.  

Spark Central invites attendees of the ISM Education Conference & Expo to participate in Creating Together: Creativity in Action for Healthy Communities—a series of participatory art experiences during the conference that transform conference attendees into active contributors to Spokane’s creative community.  

Inspired by APHSA’s commitment to advancing healthy families and communities, these experiences encourage participants to reflect, connect, and create together while leaving behind lasting resources for local youth and families. Conference participants can leave a meaningful creative legacy within the Spokane community they are visiting.  

Creativity creates space for reflection, expression, and connection. Throughout history and across cultures, people have used art to process lived experience, strengthen resilience, celebrate identity, and imagine healthier futures together. Every participant brings valuable lived experience—as a public servant, caregiver, advocate, parent, neighbor, or community member—and together those experiences become part of a shared story of care.

Creating Together: Creativity in Action for Healthy Communities

Sunday, September 27 | 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM (during the Opening Reception)

On Sunday evening, attendees will help assemble 400 Create and Care Kits for youth and families served by Spark Central. Throughout the conference, there will be a Creating Together space where attendees can participate in helping to design fabric that will be turned into bean bag chairs for the Spark Central space, painting tiles that will be turned into a lasting art mural in Spokane as a reminder that it takes a community for families and children to thrive, and creating community zines that will celebrate stories and shared experiences.
